All year long, our family looks forward to visiting the Indiana State Fair. We love the animals, the atmosphere, and of course, the food!

To prepare for this year, we’ve been reading some of our favorite books about visiting the fair. Here are the books we recommend checking out before your fair trip.

County Fair (My First Little House) by Laura Ingalls Wilder – The My First Little House books take the stories of Laura Ingalls Wilder and turn them into picture books, with illustrations designed to be true to the original novels. This book focuses on Almanzo Wilder’s trip to the county fair, and the pumpkin he’s hoping will win a prize.

A Fabulous Fair Alphabet by Debra Fraiser – This gorgeous book teaches the ABCs while journeying all over the fair. Very original and a fun read for preschoolers.

Fair Cow by Leslie Helakoski – Effie loves living on the farm, but she dreams of being a State Fair Cow.

Night at the Fair by Donald Crews – A great read for the night before a fair trip! Check out the sights, sounds, and smells of the fair, and enjoy the beautiful illustrations.

Fun at the County Fair by Dena Neuser – Great for young readers, this John Deere book has over 55 flaps to lift. There are lots of things to do before the fair comes to Merriweather Farms!
